"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked. "Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice. "You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

Things I really love

I just started using Firefox. It's all mayhem's fault, but I forgive him. Because when I want to browse my blog list, all I have to do is "Open in Tabs" and there you all are!! Seriously, I don't care what else Firefox can do. This is more than enough for this girl.

I also love the pashmina I have wrapped around my shoulders. The evenings have gotten a bit brisk the last couple of nights. Rather than change my skimpy top for a more substantial one, I simply snuggle into my pashmina. I am warm and stylish!!

My boat. We snuck up there last night, ostensibly to make sure it was properly secured while we are in Europe, but let's be honest here. We really just wanted to take it out for a spin and then sit around drinking wine and congratulating ourselves for a fabulous purchasing decision.

And tomorrow we leave for Italy and Austria. How cool is that?

Ahem

I am a published writer.

Okay, you all have already read my review of LOTR here in Toronto, but go look at the pretty reviews page to ooh and ahh all over again. And while you are there, subscribe to Noneuclidian Cafe, because it's cool and so is its editor, Jim.

How cool, you ask? Well, he married a Canadian he met on the Internet and now is moving there. People like that really got their shit together, let me tell you.

In other news, I have exactly 5 more days of school left.

Counting? Not me.

This post brought to you by the letter "R"

The lovely and attractive Annika was kind enough to tag me. And so, here are ten things about me that start with the letter "R".

The Letter Meme.

Red

Red is apparently the new black, at least in my family. New car, new boat-- both red. My living room walls-- red. This means something, doesn't it?

Republican

I voted Republican exactly once in my life. I am sorry and will never do it again. I would tell you who I voted for but it’s too damn embarrassing. (It wasn't a Bush)

Ray

Ray is one of my dearest friends from university and has remained so. He is one of the wittiest, talented and handsome men I know and I love him very much. Ray and I share many passions, including winning at games, musical theatre, dogs, brunch and tearing apart any bad theatre production or movie we see. He and his partner Truitt really need to come visit me!!

Reality television

I am completely addicted. It all started with Survivor. I watched some of the others, especially The Amazing Race, but not regularly. But this year my consumption included The Apprentice, America's Next Top Model, Beauty and the Geek, American Idol and the aforementioned Survivor and The Amazing Race. It is apparent I need to get a life.

Rimini

A resort town on the Adriatic Sea where we will spend two days this summer. We are going to Italy and Austria with another couple who spent a few nights in Rimini when they were in their early twenties. They want to go back and revisit their youth, we are just looking forward to beach and relaxation!

Ravenswood

I attended Ravenswood High School from 1970-1975. In 1969, our local school board decided to desegregate our high schools. Ravenswood was the high school located in East Palo Alto, an area almost entirely populated by blacks. Those of us in the lily-white areas of San Carlos, Belmont and Woodside were placed in a lottery and selected to attend Ravenswood. Parental uproar led to a reversal of the board’s decision, who decided to make desegregation a voluntary rather than a mandatory process. The other schools had no difficulty attracting black students who wanted to attend, but Ravenswood was a harder sell. So they recruited a group of teachers who wanted to make Ravenswood an alternative education opportunity, in order to attract liberal white students to balance the population. We had unusual curriculum offerings that sounded more like college courses than high school, a unique schedule and a great soccer team. For most of us who attended Ravenswood, it was an experience that we will never forget.

Relative frequency

I am teaching probability to my students. It is the end of the year. It is likely that only 1/6 of my students will retain any of this.

Roses

My favourite rose is Chicago Peace, although Double Delight runs a very close second. When I was in SF, I had beautiful roses growing on my rooftop deck. Here in Canada, I can’t keep them alive over the winter. It makes me sad.

Ritter Sport

Their dark chocolate bar is one of the reasons I have been able to keep off the weight over the last year. Grant and I allow ourselves four squares of it every night. Mmmmmmm.

Resilience Lift Overnight

I first got this as a gift with purchase. I could never justify spending the ridiculous amount of money it cost---for a face cream??? But, I finally did and now I can’t manage without it. It has a lovely scent that makes me relaxed and happy just before I retire for my “beauty sleep.”

Finally!

I have been wanting to make this entry for the last two weeks, but I kept forgetting the camera and what good is a post about a FABULOUS NEW PURCHASE if you can't show purty pictures of it??

We bought a new boat.

She is called Come On Over , because she is roomy and warm and fun to drink wine on. Grant and I have been busy busy busy cleaning her up and stowing all of our weekend stuff. We haven't been out in her yet, because the weather hasn't cooperated, but this weekend we are going out. Oh, yes, we are.

So....when are you coming over?

Edit: I forgot to add: this boat is actually much larger than she appears in pictures. She is a total of 33 feet and I could easily sleep 6 adults on it; more if it were a WD party. :-)
